A letter that opens into flowers
An envelope with their name on it. When they open it, flowers pour out, and underneath is whatever you made them: a letter, a question, a birthday, a book of your story, or a card from scratch. Your song is ready to play while they look. It is free, it needs no account, and it opens from a link in any browser, so it works for someone on the other side of the world as well as the other side of town.
How it works
- Pick the kind. The letter: an envelope that opens into flowers, then your letter. Or the question: a question first, with a No button that runs away, then the flowers and your letter. Or the book: your story, your photos, your firsts and the reasons you love them, bound into 24 pages they turn with a finger. Or the birthday: a cake with their candles lit, which they blow out on their phone, then a heart for each thing you made them. Or from scratch: an empty card for your own words, anywhere on it, with flowers, stamps and little words to stick on, and your song as a record they tap to play.
- Write it. Their name, your name, and the thing you only ever say at 2am.
- Make it theirs. Lilies, roses, peonies, a bit of everything, or a mix of your own. The flowers can burst straight out, or follow a spiral of petals. Pick a page for the letter to lie on, or make your own from torn paper, stamps and butterflies. Add your song, and the day it started for a clock of how long it has been.
- A little more, if you like. A lock on the envelope, a bouquet put together stem by stem, and up to eight photos in order.
- Send it. Watch it the way they will, then send the link on WhatsApp, or as a card with a heart made of a QR code that you can print.
A book, for an anniversary or a monthsary
The book is a photobook they turn with a finger. Your story, up to eight photos, little notes, your firsts, the reasons you love them, and your song as a record with a line for why it is yours. Pick how it looks: a hopeless romantic, a photobooth, a scrapbook, or a magazine with black and white photos to the edges. Give it the day it started and the cover says how long it has been, with a page for that month, the day ringed, and the moon that night. Whatever you leave empty is filled with pressed flowers and a line or two, so it is always a whole book. At the end it saves as a PDF at A5, to print.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no app to install, nothing to pay. You write it, you get a link, you send the link.
What do they see when they open it?
An envelope with their name on it. When they open it, flowers burst out until the whole screen is flowers, or a spiral of petals comes first if you pick that, and your letter is underneath. You can watch it exactly the way they will before you send it.
Do they need an account or the app?
No. It opens in the browser on any phone or laptop, straight from the link.
How do I send it?
On WhatsApp, by pasting the link into any chat, or as a card with a heart made of a QR code, which you can send as a picture or print.
Can I ask them something, like be my Valentine?
Pick The question. They get your question first, with a Yes button and a No button that runs away from their finger. You can ask up to three more after the first Yes, like Do you love me? and Do you really love me? On those, No stays put and makes a little bear cry until they say sorry. Then the flowers, and your letter.
Can I make it a book?
Pick The book. Your story, your photos, little notes, your firsts, the reasons you love them and your song as a record become a 24 page book they turn with a finger, as a hopeless romantic, a photobooth, a scrapbook or a magazine. Give it the day it started and the cover says how long it has been, with a page for that month, the day ringed, and the moon that night. Whatever else you leave empty we fill with pressed flowers (the ones you picked for the envelope) and a line or two.
Can we print the book?
Yes. On the last page there is a button to save it as a PDF, one page to a sheet at A5 (148 by 210mm), to print at home. Or have it printed at Furushoot, a photobooth studio in Batam, Indonesia.
Can I make one for a birthday?
Pick The birthday. They get a cake with their candles lit: as many as their age, or number candles from ten. They make a wish and blow on their phone to put the candles out, or tap the flames. The microphone only listens for the blowing, on their phone, and nothing is recorded or sent. Then the flowers, and a heart for each thing you put in (your letter, your song, your photos, a bouquet) to open in any order.
Can I make one from scratch?
Pick From scratch. You get an empty card and everything we have: write your own words anywhere on it, in handwriting, a serif or bold, in the ink you like, and stick on flowers, stamps, tape, butterflies and little words like sayang, kangen and miss you. Put your song on it as a record for them to tap and play. When they open it, after the flowers, the card puts itself together piece by piece in the order you made it. It is the same card on every phone, and it saves as a picture, 4 by 6 inches and sharp enough to print.
Can I add our song?
Paste a link from YouTube, Spotify or Apple Music and it waits with your letter, ready to play while they read. A YouTube link with a time in it starts at that second, so it can open on the part that is yours. In a book the song gets a page of its own: a record, in a sleeve made from one of your photos if there are any, with a line under it for why it is your song.
Can I put a lock on it?
Yes. A code for them to type, like the day you met, or a question only they would know the answer to. It is a game rather than a real lock: after five wrong tries they can open it anyway.
Can I add photos?
Up to eight, in order, to swipe through after the letter. They stay for 30 days and then fade, so there is a photo strip to print if you want to keep them. If the two of you are in Two Houses, One Home together, they stay for good. You can also cover each one, so they scratch it off with a finger. In a book, each photo gets a page of its own.
Can I change what the letter sits on?
Yes. Pick a page for it to lie on when the flowers part: a scrapbook, pressed flowers, love post, butterflies, or night letters. Or make your own from our pieces, like torn paper, stamps, tape, flowers and butterflies, and move and turn each one wherever you like.
Can anyone else read it?
Only someone holding the link. Your letter is locked on your phone before it goes anywhere, and the key is in the part of the link a browser never sends to a server, so we cannot read it. Send it to them and nobody else.
